Tehran, Iran – Iranian authorities arrested Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi on Friday while she was participating in an event.
Mohammadi was participating in the “seventh day” ceremonies for the death
of Iranian human rights lawyer and former political prisoner, Khosrow Ali Kordi.
This is in the city of Mashhad, which has faced a severe crackdown
by Iranian security forces and police.
According to reports, a number of participants
in these ceremonies were also arrested, including:
Narges Mohammadi, human rights activist
and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
The Narges Mohammadi Foundation announced on Friday, December 12,
that the Iranian activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate had been arrested.
This occurred during her participation in the seventh-day
memorial service for Ali Kordi in Mashhad,
and was violently suppressed by security and police personnel.
The organization also reported that Sepideh Gholian,
Hasti Amiri, Pouran Nazemi, and Aliyah Matlabzadeh
A number of other attendees were arrested during this attack.
