Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – High-level official communications took place between the UAE and Turkey in recent hours. This followed media reports alleging the discovery of espionage activity in Istanbul and attributing it to the UAE.
In a report published earlier by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), it was stated that during a phone call between Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, Attorney General of the UAE, and his Turkish counterpart, the latter confirmed that he had contacted the relevant authorities in Ankara and Istanbul. This included the Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office, to verify the veracity of the reports. According to the Turkish Public Prosecutor, after a thorough review of the facts,
the Turkish Public Prosecution concluded that there was no evidence of any illegal activity or suspicious movements. It emphasized that these matters could not be attributed to the UAE or its citizens. Furthermore, it was determined that the circulating allegations were not based on any evidence. Moreover, there were no official documents within the Turkish judicial institutions.
The Turkish official stated that his country takes any information of this nature seriously, but investigations have proven that what was published is merely baseless rumor. In addition, the relevant authorities have not detected any indicators to support the claims. In a move to curb the spread of misinformation, the
Turkish Attorney General instructed media and regulatory bodies to remove false reports that had cast doubt on the UAE, after confirming their complete falsity. This communication between the two sides underscores the UAE and Turkey’s commitment to transparency. It aims to safeguard bilateral relations from media manipulation attempts. It also highlights the emphasis that security and judicial information should only be obtained through official channels.
