Sources: New US base in Damascus as part of peace efforts between Syria and Israel

Damascus, Syria – Six informed sources told Reuters that the US military intends to establish a military presence at an air base in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

This is a move aimed at supporting the implementation of a security

agreement brokered by Washington between Syria and Israel.

These plans, which have not been previously reported,

come in the context of Syria rearranging its strategic relationships.

With the United States after the fall of Iran’s ally,

former President Bashar al-Assad.

Sources indicate that the planned base is located near areas in southern Syria.

It is expected to become a demilitarized zone under the agreement with Israel.

Al-Sharaa at the White House

In a related development, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt

announced that US President Donald Trump,

He plans to meet with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House next Monday.

As part of Washington’s efforts to support peace in the region.

Levitt said that al-Sharaa’s visit comes after the United States lifted

sanctions on Syria to give it “a real chance for peace”.

She stressed that Washington sees good progress being made

in this regard under the new Syrian leadership.
