The Philippines – The death toll from Typhoon Kalmaegi, which struck the Philippines in recent days, has risen to 66. Rescue teams are continuing their efforts amidst dire humanitarian conditions resulting from widespread flooding across large parts of the country.
According to the Philippine disaster management agency, the typhoon destroyed thousands of homes and infrastructure. It also displaced tens of thousands of residents to temporary shelters. Floodwaters inundated streets and transformed towns into lake-like landscapes.
Images and videos circulating on social media showed the extent of the devastation. Cars were completely submerged, and bridges and roads were washed away. Meanwhile, residents tried to cling to rooftops to escape the rising water.
