Hanoi, Vietnam – Vietnam has closed airports and evacuated thousands of people in areas potentially affected by Typhoon Boalui, which has grown stronger as it heads for the country.

This comes days after it caused at least 10 deaths and widespread flooding in the Philippines.

The Vietnam Meteorological Agency reported that the typhoon, with wind speeds of 133 kilometers at 02:00 GMT, is expected to make landfall in central Vietnam late Sunday.

That is, earlier than previously expected due to the speed of its movement.

The government said authorities in the central province of Ha Tanh had begun evacuating more than 15,000 people.

She added that thousands of soldiers are on standby.

Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Authority said operations at four coastal airports were suspended as of Sunday.

Including Danang International Airport, the take-off times of a number of flights have been modified.

The government explained that heavy rains had already caused flooding in Hue and Quang Tri.
