Tel Aviv, Israel—The Israeli military announced that it carried out a drone airstrike targeting
a car in the town of Toul in southern Lebanon, killing a prominent Hezb Allahleader, Abbas Hassan Karaki.
The Israeli military claimed that Karkie served as commander of the logistics unit on Hezb Allah’s southern front.
Details of the process and the importance of the target
According to an Israeli army statement, Karki was one of the party’s
most prominent field commanders in recent years.
He managed logistics activities, transporting and storing weapons
in southern Lebanon, especially around Nabatieh.
The statement added that Karaki “led efforts to rebuild the party’s military capabilities
in southern Lebanon after they were destroyed during previous rounds of fighting.”
Noting that he was supervising “the reconstruction of infrastructure destroyed in the last war
, especially that located south of the Litani River.”
Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee described the attack as
a “qualitative blow to the party’s logistical and military capabilities in the south.”
Stressing that Karkie was “a central figure in Hezb allah’s field apparatus,
and responsible for restoring its combat capabilities.”
No comment from Hezb allah, ongoing escalation
As of the time of writing this report, no official comment had been issued
by Hezb allah confirming or denying the strike or the identity of the deceased.
In contrast, Lebanese media reported that an Israeli drone targeted
a civilian car on the road between the town of Toul and Nabatieh.
Which led to the death of one person and the complete burning of the vehicle.
This raid comes amidst the increasing tension and almost daily
exchange of shelling on the Lebanese-Israeli border.
The targeting is the latest in a series of targeted assassinations by drones.
