Moscow, Russia – The Russian Defense Ministry announced Saturday that it had destroyed 121 Ukrainian drones overnight. This operation was one of the largest airstrikes on the front in weeks, amid the ongoing escalation between Moscow and Kyiv.
The ministry stated in an official statement that Russian air defenses repelled an intense attack targeting multiple areas within Russian borders. The ministry noted that Ukrainian aircraft were shot down over the Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod regions, as well as the Crimean Peninsula.
The ministry confirmed that air defense systems successfully repelled the attack without any human casualties or significant material damage. The ministry emphasized that Russian forces continue to “respond to all attempts to violate national airspace.”
In contrast, Kyiv did not officially comment on Moscow’s statement. Ukrainian sources indicated that the attacks targeted “Russian military and logistical facilities,” as part of what they described as a “deep pressure strategy within Russian territory.”
This development comes amid escalating airstrikes between the two sides. It comes amid international warnings that the conflict could slide into new levels of escalation that could threaten regional security in Eastern Europe.
