This system, according to the country’s description, is capable of hitting targets with pinpoint accuracy and can travel at speeds exceeding five times the speed of sound.
The Korean Central News Agency reported that the test was conducted under the direct supervision of leader Kim Jong Un. He expressed his “pride in the technological and military advancements achieved by the country despite the blockade and international sanctions.” He emphasized that the new system represents “a qualitative leap in the national deterrence and defense system.”
According to state media, the new weapon successfully performed complex aerial maneuvers at various altitudes. This makes it more capable of penetrating modern air defense systems and gives North Korea a strategic advantage against “any potential threats.”
This development comes amid escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The United States and South Korea continue to conduct joint military exercises, which Pyongyang considers a “direct provocation and an attempt to strangle it militarily.”
