New YORK, USA – Dorothy Shea, Acting US Ambassador to the United Nations, stressed that her country pledges to protect every inch of NATO.
This came after President Donald Trump confirmed that Russian marches should not approach Poland’s borders.
She also confirmed in statements published by the US mission on its website on Saturday that Russian marches penetrating Polish airspace does not help efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
In addition, Shea explained, “The United States stands with its NATO allies in confronting these disturbing violations of airspace”.
“It might be a mistake”
These statements come after Trump said earlier that the incursion of Russian drones into Poland “may have been a mistake”.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded on his Twitter account, saying, “We, too, would have preferred that the drone attack on our country was just a mistake… but we know it wasn’t.”
However, Trump returned and addressed that issue in an interview with Fox News on Friday.
He stressed that Russian marches should not approach the Polish border.
European alert
This incident sparked European anger and alert among members of the defense alliance.
It led to Warsaw receiving support from its NATO allies through their contribution to the downing of some of these Russian marches.
This is in a precedent for a member of the Western military coalition to open fire during the Russian-Ukrainian war that has been ongoing since February 2022.
For its part, Russia confirmed that it did not intend or plan to bomb any Polish targets, refusing to provide further details about the incident.
