Brussels, Belgium – NATO confirmed on Wednesday that its air defenses contributed to confronting drones. These drones violated Polish airspace during a Russian attack on Ukraine.

“Many female drones entered Polish airspace overnight. They were confronted by Polish and NATO air defenses,” NATO spokeswoman Alison Hart said on the X platform.

She noted that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte “is in contact with the Polish leadership. NATO is consulting closely with Poland.”

She confirmed that NATO ambassadors hold a regular meeting on Wednesday morning.

They will discuss how the alliance responded to the drones that penetrated Poland’s airspace during the night.

For her part, European Union foreign policy chief Kaya Kallas said that Russia’s “violation” of Polish airspace appeared to be “deliberate.”

This came after Warsaw announced that it was intercepting Russian drones in its airspace on Tuesday night.

“Last night in Poland we witnessed the most serious violation of European airspace by Russia since the beginning of the war,” she said on X.

Indicators also show that this was a deliberate act and not an accident.

In turn, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday that he had spoken to the Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

This comes after more than a dozen drones entered Polish airspace during Russian attacks on Ukraine.

Tusk added in a post on the social networking site “X”: “I informed the Secretary-General of NATO of the current situation. I also shared the measures we have taken against objects that violated our airspace.” We maintain constant contact.

The Ministry of Defense in Warsaw stated that all ministries responsible for the country’s security will participate in an emergency meeting. The focus will be on the situation.

President Karol Nauroki said he had received a briefing from the Polish Armed Forces. He would chair a national security meeting soon.

“Our country’s security is our top priority and requires close cooperation,” Naoruki said in a post on the social networking site X.
