Washington, United States – J. confirmed. US Vice President De Vance said Russia had made “significant concessions” to end its war with Ukraine through negotiations.

He expressed confidence that progress would be made despite the absence of clear indications that the conflict was nearing its end.

Vance told N.B.C: Russian President Vladimir Putin made a number of concessions. This includes Ukraine obtaining security guarantees to protect it from any future Russian aggression.

security guarantees

“I think the Russians have made significant concessions to (US President Donald) Trump for the first time in three and a half years,” Vance said.

“They realized that they would not be able to install a subordinate regime in Kiev,” he added. This was of course a major requirement at first.

He pointed out that, most importantly, the Russians acknowledged that there would be some security guarantees for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Vance also said sanctions would be considered on a case-by-case basis.

He acknowledged that imposing new sanctions on Russia would likely not push it to agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine.

to impose tariffs

Vance pointed to Trump’s announcement this month. He mentioned imposing additional 25 percent tariffs on Indian goods as punishment for New Delhi’s purchases of Russian oil. This act was highlighted as a kind of economic pressure that could be used in the pursuit of peace.

“He sought to make clear that Russia could be returned to the global economy if they stopped the killing,” the US vice president said.

“The Russians will continue to isolate themselves if they don’t,” he noted.

The Russian invasion, which began in February 2022, sparked a conflict that killed tens of thousands.

Abandon Donbass

Sources told Reuters last week that in order for Russia to stop its attacks, Putin is demanding that Ukraine abandon the entire Donbass region in the east.

In addition to abandoning its ambitions to join NATO. Ukraine would also need to commit to neutrality and not deploying Western forces in Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview that a group of countries must be guarantors of Ukraine’s security.

On Friday, Trump renewed his threat to impose sanctions on Russia if progress is not made towards a peace settlement in Ukraine within two weeks.

He thus expressed his frustration with Moscow a week after his meeting with Putin in Alaska.
