"National Guard" in Sweida.. Does it repeat the Iranian version?
Druze leader Laith Al-Balous considered the formation of the so-called "National Guard" a step that lacks the voice of reason/agencies

As-Suwayda, Syria – Armed groups have announced their integration into what they call the “National Guard” to maintain security in As-Suwayda.

She affirmed her full commitment to the decisions of the Druze leader, Hikmat al-Hijri.

This comes at a time when the security situation remains tense in the Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria. This is despite the cessation of violence.

On the other hand, Druze leader Laith Al-Balous considered the formation of the so-called “National Guard” a step that lacks the voice of reason.

an Iranian version

He also considered that the name of the new Druze faction was copied from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. He noted that it was a step that carried within it devastation.

He said in a post on Facebook, “The people of As-Suwayda Governorate were waiting for Sheikh Hikmat Al-Hijri, whom some consider a reference for them, to present to them a comprehensive position. They hoped for solutions leading people towards safety. However, he appeared, as usual, in a video surrounded by a group of faction leaders. This included those previously known for kidnapping, theft, looting, and blackmailing women. He announced the formation of the so-called “National Guard,” a name copied from the “Revolutionary Guard.”

He also believed that “the message that arrived from this appearance was not a message of wisdom or responsibility”.

He considered it a message that carried more devastation and destruction.

While he appreciated the position of the Men of Dignity Movement, which was not among those factions announced to be formed in the name of the National Guard.

Clashes and tensions

Suwayda witnessed clashes and confrontations that lasted a week on July 13 (July) between Druze fighters and Bedouin tribes.

Government security forces then intervened to stop the confrontations between the two sides. About 200,000 were displaced as a result of the conflict, according to United Nations estimates.

But since July 19, the province has witnessed a ceasefire following bloody clashes that left hundreds dead, as tensions continue.

Last week, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa stressed the unity of Syrian territory.

He pointed out that “parties rely on Israel, but they will not be able to achieve their goals”.
