Washington, United States – The British newspaper “The Telegraph” revealed that US President Donald Trump is preparing to give Russia access to natural resources and minerals in Ukraine and Alaska. This is to motivate him to end the war in Ukraine.

The newspaper explained that Trump will arrive at his upcoming meeting with Putin, on Friday, in Alaska. He will carry a number of financial profit opportunities for Russia. These include opening Alaska’s natural resources to Moscow and lifting some US sanctions on the Russian aviation industries.

According to the British newspaper, the proposals also include granting Putin access to rare earth minerals found in Ukrainian territory. This territory is controlled by Russia.

“There are a range of incentives, and an agreement on rare earths is likely to be one of them,” an informed source said.

The Telegraph reported that Ukraine owns 10 percent of the world’s reserves of lithium. This is the base metal used in the manufacture of batteries.

Two of the largest lithium deposits are located in Ukrainian areas under Russian control.

Putin announced his adherence to precious metals in these regions.

Rare Metals Agreement

Last May, the United States signed an agreement with Kiev on rare earth minerals. This allows it to exploit Ukraine’s abundant natural resources.

Washington will need to establish new mining operations, which could be accelerated with Russian cooperation, according to the Telegraph.

The Telegraph indicated that US Treasury Secretary Scott Benst briefed Trump on the economic concessions that Washington could give to Russia. This would be to accelerate reaching a ceasefire agreement.

Extra incentives

Other incentives include lifting the ban on exporting parts and equipment needed to maintain Russian aircraft. These aircraft were damaged after Western sanctions on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Airlines and the military had to dismantle old aircraft to obtain spare parts.

The Telegraph also pointed out Trump’s intention to hold a second meeting with Putin after their talks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will participate in this meeting.

Trump said: “If all goes well in the first meeting, we will have a second meeting quickly.. “I would like to hold it almost immediately, and we will hold a quick second meeting between President Putin, President Zelensky and me, if they wish to host me,” the Telegraph reported.

The newspaper reported that Trump is considering giving Russia opportunities to exploit natural resources in the strait separating the two countries.

It is estimated to contain undiscovered oil and gas reserves, including 13 percent of the world’s oil reserves.

A British government source told The Telegraph that these incentives could be acceptable in Europe if they were not seen as a reward for Russia. He added: “They must be presented in a way that is in line with public opinion, and cannot be seen as a reward for Putin.”

A US-Russian summit between Trump and Putin is expected to be held in Alaska on Friday.
