Education experts emphasize that reading during the early years of childhood plays a pivotal role in building a child’s personality, nurturing their imagination, and enhancing their critical thinking and creativity. Therefore, specialists recommend choosing books that combine enjoyment with human values and suit different age stages, ensuring that reading becomes a lifelong habit. Some books have managed to maintain their status across generations, thanks to the educational messages and inspiring stories they contain, making them among the most highly recommended works for children before the age of twelve.

Classics of Imagination and Human Values

“The Little Prince” by French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry stands at the forefront of these works, offering a profound vision of life, friendship, and love through a simple story suitable for both children and adults. It encourages the reader to reflect on human values beyond mere appearances. In terms of thrilling adventures, the “Harry Potter” series by British author J.K. Rowling is one of the most engaging works for children, carrying messages of courage, friendship, and teamwork, while also possessing a remarkable ability to foster imagination and a love for reading.

Creativity, Adventure, and Moral Lessons

“Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll holds a special place in children’s literature, transporting the reader to a world full of strange situations and fictional characters, encouraging them to think outside the box and cultivate a spirit of innovation. Just as exciting is “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson, which offers a thrilling adventure filled with the quest for treasure, instilling values of courage, determination, and responsibility in children. To reinforce ethical development, educators recommend “Aesop’s Fables,” which includes a collection of short stories inspired by the animal world, each carrying a moral lesson that helps children understand honesty, integrity, cooperation, and respect for others.

Cultural Identity and Investing in the Future

Arabic works are not absent from this list, as educational institutions emphasize the importance of introducing children to stories from Arab and Islamic heritage, as well as simplified biographies of prophets, scientists, and explorers. These stories play a vital role in strengthening cultural identity and a sense of belonging. Education experts point out that investing in children’s reading from their early years is one of the best investments possible, as it contributes to developing linguistic skills, boosting self-confidence, expanding horizons, and building a generation that is more aware, creative, and capable of facing future challenges.
