Paris, France – The 79th Cannes Film Festival opened amidst a festive atmosphere, with a large turnout of film stars and filmmakers from around the world, who flocked to the red carpet in front of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France.

Paris, France – The 79th Cannes Film Festival opened amidst a festive atmosphere, with a large turnout of film stars and filmmakers from around the world, who flocked to the red carpet in front of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France.
The red carpet also saw the presence of Lebanese actress Nadine Njeim, Egyptian actor Asser Yassin who appeared with his wife Kenzy Abdullah, and Amr Mansi, co-founder of the El Gouna Film Festival.
Special honors in the new session
On the sidelines of the festival, the city of Cannes will host both Barbra Streisand and Peter Jackson to honor them with the “Honorary Palme d’Or” award, in recognition of their long artistic careers and outstanding contributions to the global film industry.
The red carpet events also continue with the attendance of a number of international stars, including John Travolta and Adam Driver.
22 films in the Palme d’Or race
Twenty-two films are competing for the Palme d’Or award during this year’s festival, with the closing ceremony and awards announcement scheduled for May 23.
The jury is headed by South Korean director Park Chan-wook, known for his work in horror and thriller films, and also includes American star Demi Moore.
It is worth noting that the 2025 edition of the festival saw Iranian director Jafar Panahi win the Palme d’Or for his film “It Was Just an Accident”.
