Brasilia, Brazil – Colombian superstar Shakira stole the show after performing one of her biggest concerts ever on Rio de Janeiro’s famous Copacabana beach. Nearly two million people attended the event, making it one of the largest open-air music events in recent years, with a massive crowd and an exceptional atmosphere stretching along the beach.
An exceptional appearance on a huge stage
Shakira appeared on a giant stage measuring 1,345 square meters, wearing the colors of the Brazilian flag, and performed a selection of her most famous songs that have been sung by millions. The concert, which included 10 changes of the star’s outfits, witnessed a special collaboration with Brazilian pop star Anitta, along with the participation of music legends Caetano Veloso and Maria Pitana, which gave the show a purely Brazilian cultural character.
Huge economic return for the city
According to estimates by Rio de Janeiro municipal officials, the event generated approximately $161.45 million in economic revenue, benefiting the hotel, restaurant, transportation, and retail sectors.
Extensive preparations ahead of the event
The city had been preparing for the concert for days, with huge posters covering the streets and vendors in Copacabana busy selling drinks, T-shirts, and small bottles filled with “Shakira’s tears.” The event saw a massive security presence, with some 8,000 police officers deployed, along with drones, facial recognition cameras, and 18 checkpoints equipped with metal detectors.
