Cairo, Egypt – Hani Mahrous commented on the use of his song “Satlana” in an American TV series: “This song gave me depression.”
He emphasized that the song achieved global success, exceeding everyone’s expectations.
In media statements, Mahrous said, “Since 2023, this song has been bringing joy to many people. It’s truly gratifying to create something that brings happiness and joy to others. The song has been featured in numerous works, most recently in the international American series, and this makes me very happy.”
Hani Mahrous: Success after hard work
He added: “After you work hard and strive, you find that God gives you success.. and that’s what happened with the song, thank God. The song was a success after a month and 10 days since its release, and this made me depressed.. I spent this period unable to work and I was very upset, because we worked very hard on all its details, from lyrics and melody to appearance.”
A salute to the songwriters
Mahrous made sure to thank the team, saying, “I extend my gratitude to poet Mustafa Hassan and composer Karim Ashour for their tremendous effort.”
He revealed that the series’ production company contacted him to obtain the usage rights, explaining, “They contacted the distributor and asked us about how to use the song and how to get the license… and foreigners are always very committed to intellectual property rights.”
The secret to the song’s global success
Regarding the song’s success outside Egypt, he said, “The music is familiar to them, they use the word ‘oh,’ and the word ‘satlana’ is easy for them to pronounce.”
It’s worth noting that the song “satlana” features several stars and first appeared in the film “Baad El Shar” before achieving widespread popularity both locally and internationally.
