New York, USA – Rockstar Games has announced a second delay to the release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI), one of the most anticipated video games in history. The game is now scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.
The game was initially scheduled for release in the fall of 2025, then the date was postponed to May 2026. Rockstar Games then announced on Thursday that the development team needed an additional six months to ensure quality.
Ensuring the “required level of quality”
The development company justified its decision to postpone in an official statement, saying: “We regret adding more time to what we recognize has been a long wait, but these additional months will allow us to finish the game to the desired level of quality that you expect and deserve.”
Record public anticipation
Grand Theft Auto VI is generating huge global anticipation; it is the sequel to the legendary Grand Theft Auto V game released in 2013. It entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest entertainment game to achieve sales of $1 billion, achieving this feat in just three days.
The huge level of anticipation shows that the game’s promotional trailer, released by Rockstar Games in December 2023, broke the record for the most views on YouTube in 24 hours (excluding music videos).
Rockstar Games did not provide further details regarding the reason for the delay. This announcement comes a week after the company fired between 30 and 40 employees, allegedly for sharing confidential information on a Discord server.
