  • Who is the “compassionate judge”?

Rhode Island, United States – The famous American judge Frank Caprio, known as the “compassionate judge”, has passed away.

Judge Rahim died at the age of 88, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

His family issued a statement on his official Facebook page. They confirmed the news of his death, which came hours after he posted a video clip.

Family statement

“Judge Caprio is known for his compassion, humility, and deep belief in human well-being. He has touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond,” said a statement from Judge Rahim’s family.

The statement added: “His warm spirit, sense of humor and kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone who knew him. “Caprio will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a loving husband, a great father, grandfather, and father, and a loyal friend. His legacy and the good deeds he inspired others will live on. Let us honor his memory. Thus, we may all seek to spread more compassion in this world, just as he did every day.”

last message

The late Judge Frank Caprio, known for his humanity and compassionate rulings, sent a moving message to his audience while he was on his sickbed.

Caprio, who was given the title of “compassionate judge” by the public, published his message in several posts on his official Facebook page.

He said: “I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart everyone who prayed for me and surrounded me with love and support. Your words and encouragement mean a lot to me and my family. We are sincerely grateful, and I hope you will keep us in your prayers today.”

The veteran judge did not hide the difficulty of the stage he was going through. However, he showed strong determination before his death.

“As I continue this difficult battle, your prayers lift my spirit and give me the strength to keep going,” he added.

Caprio explained that his health condition had deteriorated in recent hours.

He pointed out, saying: “A year ago, I asked you to pray for me, and it seems that you did so, because I overcame a very difficult period. Unfortunately, I suffered a setback, and returned to the hospital”.

He ended his last message by asking his followers to pray for him: “I ask you to remember me in your prayers again, and I ask you again if I am not exaggerating in my request, to remember me in your prayers. I am a strong believer in the power of prayer and that God hears us, so please remember me.”

After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2023, the famous American judge announced good news to his fans on May 24, 2025. He announced, in a video on his official Instagram page, the end of his treatment journey for the disease. He said: “On my last day of radiation therapy, I am on my way to happy days.”

Who is the “compassionate judge”?

Frank Caprio, or Francesco Caprio, is an American judge and lawyer born in 1936.

He has served as Chief Justice of the Providence Municipal Court, Rhode Island, USA, since 1985.

He also served as Chairman of the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education for 10 years.

In recent years, he gained international fame after appearing on the TV show Caught in Providence. The show was produced by his brother Joe Caprio and was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 2021.

His fame also increased with the spread of videos of him on social media. These videos showed him in trials characterized by compassion, mercy, and seeking excuses for the accused. Moreover, a sense of humor was present in his sessions. Ultimately, he was nicknamed the “merciful judge” for his humanitarian stances and his bias towards the weak and oppressed.

The judge, the father of five children, including seven grandchildren, announced last January his retirement from the bench. This marked the end of 40 years of service. During this time, he served as Chief Justice of the Municipal Court of Rhode Island and Chairman of the Board of Governors and Education there as well.
