Kuwait – The Kuwait Ports Authority announced in an urgent official statement this morning, Friday, that Shuwaikh Port was subjected to a hostile attack carried out by “enemy” drones. The Authority confirmed that technical and security teams immediately began assessing the damage following the incident. It indicated that initial reports revealed minor material damage to some port facilities. At the same time, it confirmed that no injuries or casualties had been reported as of the time of this report.
Security alert and activation of emergency plans
Immediately after the attack, the institution clarified that all emergency procedures applicable in such exceptional circumstances were activated. This was done in close coordination with the relevant security and military authorities to ensure the safety of vital facilities and their personnel.
In a related context, field sources confirmed that Kuwaiti air defenses are currently effectively countering successive attacks involving missiles and hostile drones that attempted to penetrate Kuwaiti airspace and reach strategic targets.
Notice from the General Staff
For its part, the Kuwaiti Army issued a statement through the General Staff, reassuring citizens and residents about the security situation.
The General Staff noted that the sounds of explosions that may be heard in various areas are a result of successful interception operations carried out by air defense systems. These systems intercept and destroy hostile targets in the air before they reach their ground targets.
Calls to comply with instructions
Kuwaiti authorities stressed the need for caution and vigilance, urging everyone to strictly adhere to the security and safety instructions issued by official bodies. They also emphasized the importance of refraining from circulating rumors or unverified videos on social media, and relying solely on statements issued by the Ministry of Information and the General Staff. It is worth noting that Shuwaikh Port is the country’s main commercial artery. Authorities are currently working to secure its entire perimeter to ensure a return to normal operations as soon as possible, once the threat has been completely eliminated.
