Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the attack targeting the French contingent serving within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Riyadh emphasized that such assaults represent not only a flagrant violation of international laws and norms but also a direct threat to peacekeeping and security missions in the region. Accordingly, the Saudi position on UNIFIL targeting reaffirms the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting international legitimacy and protecting regional stability against any actions that undermine diplomatic endeavors.
Absolute Rejection of Attacks on UN Forces and Warnings of Escalation
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted in an official statement the Kingdom’s total rejection of any targeting of international forces operating under the UN umbrella. Obviously, these attacks increase the fragility of the security situation in southern Lebanon and obstruct efforts to stabilize the ceasefire. As a result, Riyadh called for providing full protection to UNIFIL personnel to ensure they can carry out their internationally mandated tasks, warning that harming these forces could open the door to dangerous security repercussions extending beyond Lebanon to overshadow the entire region.
Support for Resolution 1701 and Diplomatic Action to Contain the Crisis
The Kingdom stressed the importance of all parties adhering to relevant international resolutions, primarily UN Resolution 1701, as a fundamental framework for ensuring security in southern Lebanon. Certainly, Saudi diplomatic action aims to preserve the role of peacekeeping forces as a vital balance element amidst current security complexities. Accordingly, the Saudi position on UNIFIL targeting remains a significant reference calling for restraint and prioritizing dialogue to achieve sustainable stability that protects Lebanon from sliding into broader conflicts with uncalculated outcomes.
