Abu Dhabi, UAE – In a milestone that highlights the capital’s leadership in advanced spinal surgery, Healthpoint Hospital, part of the M42 group, organized a special event titled “Scoliosis Success Day” to celebrate completing more than 70 successful surgeries correcting spinal deformities in children and adolescents.
Advanced Medical Achievements
The surgeries addressed a wide range of conditions including scoliosis and kyphosis, covering congenital cases as well as idiopathic scoliosis. This achievement underscores Abu Dhabi’s growing status as a global destination for complex spinal deformity treatments. It is backed by modern protocols and stringent safety standards in operating theaters and intensive care units.
Unified Medical Teamwork
The event also showcased patients’ recovery journeys while honoring the medical and nursing teams behind this success.
Dr. Walid Heikal, Consultant Spine Surgeon at Healthpoint and Danat Al Emarat Hospitals, said:
“This is the first event of its kind in Abu Dhabi, combining scientific awareness with real-life patient experiences. Our goal is to raise community awareness of scoliosis. We wish to reaffirm that advanced treatments are available right here in the UAE at a level equal to—and in many cases surpassing—global centers, with fewer complications.”
He emphasized that the strength of the program lies in a multidisciplinary approach. It brings together spine surgeons, anesthetists, physiotherapists, nurses, and post-care physicians in a coordinated process. This process ranges from accurate diagnosis and advanced surgical planning to tailored rehabilitation programs, ensuring reduced complications and faster patient recovery.
Abu Dhabi as a Healthcare Hub
Participants stressed that this series of successful surgeries strengthens patient trust in the UAE’s healthcare system. It reduces the need to travel abroad for treatment. The event also reflects M42’s vision of embedding patient-centered care based on measurable clinical outcomes and transparency.
Inspiring Stories and Awareness Messages
Patients and their families shared heartfelt testimonies describing their transformation—from initial fears of “a major surgery” to confidently returning to school, sports, and daily activities. The program also delivered key awareness messages to the public. These included early signs of scoliosis, when to seek specialist consultation, the role of bracing and physiotherapy, and the importance of post-surgery rehabilitation with family and school support.
What is Scoliosis?
Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine, typically exceeding 10 degrees according to Cobb’s angle. Symptoms may include uneven shoulders, rib cage prominence, and back pain.
Treatment options range from observation and bracing in mild to moderate cases to corrective surgery for severe cases. These aim to restore spinal balance, prevent progression, and improve quality of life.
