Washington, DC – US Senator Lindsey Graham stressed that any easing of sanctions on Iran must be contingent upon substantial concessions regarding its nuclear program and regional behavior, according to media reports.
Graham emphasized that a key condition is Iran’s surrender of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
Furthermore, he asserted that strict limitations must be imposed on Iran’s ballistic missile and drone programs,
which he considers a threat to regional and international security.
Strict nuclear conditions
The US senator explained that halting uranium enrichment is a crucial condition for any potential agreement.
At the same time, he stressed the need for concrete steps to ensure
Tehran does not resume developing military nuclear capabilities.
He also emphasized the importance of clear monitoring mechanisms to guarantee Iran’s full compliance with any agreement reached.
Restrictions on missiles and drones
The US senator called for direct restrictions on Iran’s missile and drone programs, arguing that they pose
a future threat to countries in the region and international interests.
He stressed that any agreement that does not include these restrictions will be insufficient to guarantee stability.
Stop regional threats
The US senator stressed the necessity of Iran’s commitment to refrain from threatening navigation in the Strait of Hormuz
and to cease its support for armed groups he described as terrorist.
He considers this an essential part of any comprehensive settlement.
He indicated that fulfilling these conditions is the only path to easing sanctions.
Furthermore, it would open the door to international understandings with Tehran.
