Abu Dhabi, UAE – Al Ain team won the UAE President’s Cup title for the eighth time in its history, after achieving a well-deserved victory over Al Jazira with a score of 4-1, in the final match that brought them together on Friday evening.
The Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium hosted the final match, which witnessed a clear superiority for the leader, to continue its exceptional season by adding a new title to its trophy cabinet a few days after winning the ADNOC Pro League title, achieving the local double.
Al Jazira started the match strongly and succeeded in opening the scoring early in the 12th minute, after taking advantage of a set piece and shooting a low, creeping shot into the far left corner of Al Ain’s goalkeeper.
But Al Ain responded quickly, as Moroccan Soufiane Rahimi equalized in the 15th minute, after a complete break in front of the goal which he easily finished into the net.
Al Ain continued their offensive pressure, and Rahimi returned to score Al Ain’s second goal in the 20th minute, after he took advantage of Al Jazira’s defensive confusion and fired the ball powerfully into the penalty area.
Before the end of the first half, Abdul Karim Traoré extended Al Ain’s lead with a third goal in the 44th minute, a powerful shot that found the back of Al Jazira’s net. Al Ain finished the first half with a 3-1 lead.
In the second half, Al Jazira tried to get back into the game and reduce the deficit, but Al Ain managed to control the course of the match and close down the spaces in front of their opponent’s attacks.
With Al Jazira’s attacking surge in the final minutes, Al Ain exploited the spaces and added a fourth goal in stoppage time through Eric Jurgens de Menezes, who scored with a perfect header that confirmed his team’s title win.
