  • Shipping Partnership

Abu Dhabi, UAE – Etihad Airways announced a qualitative expansion in its flight network in mainland China. Includes the launch of five new destinations and the addition of 28 weekly flights. In a move that represents one of the largest increases in capacity in a single market in recent years.

Under this expansion, Etihad will operate direct flights from Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi to Shanghai Pudong, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen. Bringing its total operations in China to 35 flights per week to six destinations. Including its current daily service to Beijing Daxing.

All flights will be operated via Etihad’s fleet of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, equipped with 28 business class seats and 262 economy class seats.

Emirates-China Corridor

According to Etihad Airways, this expansion reflects the growing strategic importance of the Emirates–China corridor. By strengthening ties in the fields of trade, tourism and investment. Consolidating Abu Dhabi’s position as a global gateway linking China to the markets of the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America.

The expansion will also boost passenger and cargo traffic between the two countries, and provide greater access to China’s most prominent commercial, industrial and technical centers. In addition to enhancing connectivity in the shipping sector through the most important manufacturing and export centers. Supporting global supply chains and high-value trade flows.

All new routes will be included in the joint cooperation agreement between Etihad Airways and China Eastern Airlines. This enhances connectivity between the UAE and China through coordinated services across major gateways. China Eastern Airlines currently operates routes linking Shanghai, Kunming and Xi’an to the United Arab Emirates.

Shipping Partnership

This expansion also supports the cargo partnership project between Etihad Airways and ”SF Airlines”. This enhances air freight connectivity and supports the movement of goods through major trade corridors between China and global markets.

Each of the five new destinations plays a pivotal role within China’s economic and cultural landscape. Enhancing the Union’s ability to meet diverse needs in the passenger and air freight sectors, Shanghai Pudong is a global financial center and a major hub for international shipping, and Guangzhou is a major gateway for manufacturing and trade in southern China. Chengdu is a rapidly growing center of innovation and technology in western China. Hangzhou is a leading center for the digital economy and e-commerce, and Shenzhen is a global technology powerhouse and a major export market.

This announcement represents a qualitative expansion in Etihad Airways’ presence in China. It provides its customers in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas with wider access to China’s most prominent commercial and cultural centers via Abu Dhabi.
