Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Social Sector Committee of the Education, Human Development and Community Council held its meeting, chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Mariam bint Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice Chair of the Council.
The Committee discussed efforts to enhance community well-being and support families and community members.
It also reviewed national initiatives within the framework of the “Year of the Family 2026.”
Emirati Family Growth Strategy
The Social Sector Committee emphasized the importance of placing individuals and families at the heart of national policies and initiatives,
thereby strengthening family cohesion and reinforcing the values of solidarity and mutual support among all segments of society.
The committee also discussed plans and initiatives aimed at supporting those about to marry within the framework of the UAE Family Growth Strategy 2031.
Furthermore, it discussed the development of family preparation programs for parents and families in their early stages.
In addition, the expansion of family-friendly work environments was addressed.
Her Excellency Sanaa bint Mohammed Suhail, Minister of Family Affairs,
reviewed the key pillars of the comprehensive National Plan for the Year of the Family.
These pillars included raising awareness of family issues and developing legislation, policies, and incentives that support family stability. The establishment of a unified national framework for related initiatives and programs was also reviewed.
Field and proactive measures
Her Excellency Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Community Empowerment, presented the Ministry’s efforts to enhance
the role of public benefit institutions in supporting families and community initiatives.
His Excellency Shams Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, reviewed the proactive
and field-based measures implemented to meet the needs of various segments of society,
including senior citizens, people of determination, and low-income groups.
These field initiatives included programs such as the “Madeem” platform to support family formation and the “Gharas” parenting license program to empower parents.
They also included programs to enhance quality of life and social cohesion,
such as “Barakatna” and the Nabdh Community Centers.
The committee emphasized the importance of continued coordination and integration among relevant entities in the social sector,
and the development of initiatives and policies that support families.
The aim is to strengthen the stability of Emirati families and solidify their role
as a cornerstone of social cohesion, sustainability, and development.
