Fujairah, UAE – Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, affirmed that positive media plays a vital role in fostering community awareness and promoting peace and stability within society. He also highlighted the growing role of media in disseminating knowledge and strengthening professional responsibility.
This came during the Ruler of Fujairah’s reception, in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, of a select group of media professionals from across the UAE. The meeting was also attended by well-wishers offering their congratulations on the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan.
Media is an influential soft power
Hamad Al Sharqi pointed out that media in the modern era has become one of the most prominent tools of soft power, given its pivotal role in disseminating knowledge and enhancing societal awareness.
He explained that media also contributes to establishing the values of professional responsibility and transparency when addressing various issues and public affairs. This supports the building of an informed society capable of dealing with challenges and changes.
Responsible media builds trust
The Ruler of Fujairah emphasized that responsible media is a cornerstone in providing accurate information from reliable sources and explaining facts objectively, avoiding sensationalism or succumbing to rumors.
He added that this approach strengthens public trust in sources of knowledge and fosters a sense of reassurance and stability in public awareness, especially in light of increasing media challenges.
The need to verify information
Hamad Al Sharqi called for awareness and responsibility when dealing with content circulating across various media platforms, emphasizing the importance of verifying the credibility of information before publishing or sharing it.
He pointed out that the rapid spread of news via social media necessitates a greater degree of accuracy and awareness. He noted that positive media will remain a key partner in promoting community well-being and strengthening public awareness.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Dr. Rashid bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fujairah Foundation for Regional Development. Several other senior government officials were also present.
