Abu Dhabi, UAE – The UAE Ministry of Defense announced the interception and downing of several ballistic missiles and drones launched toward the country’s airspace, marking a new development in the regional escalation linked to the Iranian-American-Israeli conflict. In an official statement, the Ministry confirmed that air defense systems successfully dealt with “successive waves of aerial threats.” The Ministry added that “the security situation is under control” and that the armed forces are at their highest state of readiness.
Shrapnel falls and a victim is reported in Abu Dhabi
Official reports indicated that missile debris fell in various parts of Abu Dhabi, resulting in the death of one Asian national and minor injuries to others. Limited material damage was also reported to some residential buildings. In Dubai, debris was reported in the Palm Jumeirah area. A small fire broke out but was brought under control by Civil Defense teams; no serious injuries were reported.
Partial closure of airspace
For its part, the General Authority of Civil Aviation announced a partial and temporary closure of airspace as a precautionary measure. A number of flights were diverted and others rescheduled in coordination with airlines operating in the country. The Authority affirmed that the decision aims to “ensure the highest standards of air safety in light of regional developments.”
Official position: The right to self-defense and state sovereignty
The UAE government stressed that targeting its territory constitutes a violation of its sovereignty. It affirmed its full right to take all necessary measures to protect its national security and the safety of its citizens and residents. Official authorities urged the public to rely on government sources for information and to refrain from spreading rumors on social media.
Escalating regional context
These developments come amid a broader military escalation following US-Israeli strikes targeting sites inside Iran. Tehran responded by launching missiles and drones at targets in several Gulf states that host US military facilities and bases. The region is witnessing intensive diplomatic efforts to contain the situation. There are also international warnings about the widening scope of the confrontation and its repercussions on energy security and regional stability.
