Dubai, UAE – Thani Al Shehhi, player of the UAE national team for people with disabilities, won the team’s first medal in the Asian Youth Paralympic Games, currently being held in Dubai.
This came after he won a bronze medal in table tennis for the T3 category, in the tournament in which 1,500 athletes from 35 countries are participating.
Al Shehhi finished third in the competition, while Japanese Keita Gua Yue won first place and the gold medal.
Yi Wei from Taipei China won second place and a silver medal.
Majed Al-Osaimi, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee, congratulated the national team player on his efforts.
He stressed that this achievement represents an important motivation for him to continue developing and achieving future goals.
For his part, Dhiban Al Muhairi, Secretary General of the National Paralympic Committee and head of the delegation, stressed that the achievements made by people with disabilities are the result of the support of the wise leadership.
What was reflected positively in their presence on the podiums.
He pointed out that the bronze medal in table tennis reflects the continued interest in developing the game and enabling its players to achieve outstanding results.
The UAE is participating in the tournament with 51 male and female players in 8 sports, including boccia, athletics, badminton, power lifts, and swimming.
Table tennis, wheelchair basketball, and arm wrestling are among the 11 sports approved for the event.
