Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Flydubai signed a memorandum of understanding with Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
This is to purchase 75 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft worth $13 billion (47.75 billion dirhams).
In a move that reflects the carrier’s efforts to achieve Dubai’s vision for the growth of the aviation sector in the coming years.
The new agreement allows Flydubai to benefit from the flexibility of the 737 MAX family of aircraft and its common characteristics while using the unique size and range of the 737-8, 737-9, and 737-10 aircraft.
The agreement was signed by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Supreme President of Flydubai, with the CEO and Executive Director of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Stephanie Pope, in the presence of Flydubai CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, at the Dubai Airshow 2025.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said: “We are pleased to announce an order for new aircraft with (Boeing), and looking to the future, proactive fleet planning is essential to ensure our ability to meet the growing demand for travel, a demand that we are confident will continue to grow”. Anticipating future needs is a critical factor in the success of any airline, and today’s announcement reflects our commitment to this principle.
He added, “Dubai’s environment, which is characterized by world-class infrastructure, advanced legislation, open atmosphere policies, and its ability to attract global talent, are general factors in enabling (Flydubai) to expand and grow”. We are proud to sign another order for (737 MAX) aircraft with (Boeing), the trusted partner that played a major role in expanding our network to its current size.
He explained: “The availability of reliable aircraft and a delivery schedule is vital to the continued growth of our sector, and this agreement ensures that we remain well positioned for future growth by adding more aircraft to our fleet and replacing existing aircraft”.
He continued: “I would like to thank our team for their dedication and hard work. Their efforts, along with Dubai’s ambitious vision for the coming years, reflect our optimism for the future, including playing a major role in the expansion plans of Dubai Al Maktoum Airport”.
The world’s first aircraft operators (737 MAX)
For her part, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Stephanie Pope, said: “(Flydubai) is one of the first operators of (737 MAX) aircraft in the world, and its plan to sign the current order, which is its fifth order so far, reflects the leading value of the (737 MAX) aircraft in the market and its versatility.” She added: “We are proud that (Boeing) aircraft will remain a fundamental pillar of (Flydubai)’s strategic fleet and growth plans”.
It is noteworthy that Flydubai operates a modern and effective fleet consisting of 96 Boeing 737 aircraft, including: 27 new generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft, 66 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, and three Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft.
