Manchester, England – Manchester City are close to officially announcing the extension of their Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol’s contract, after reaching a final agreement between the two parties for the player to continue with the team for several more seasons.
Florian Plettenberg, a reporter for Sky Sport Germany, stated that Gvardiol’s agent arrived in Manchester on Monday to finalize the procedures for the new contract before officially signing it.
Plettenberg explained, via his account on the “X” platform, that the Croatian defender signed a contract that extends until the summer of 2031, noting that the agreement includes a significant increase in his salary, and that the club will announce the details of the extension in the near future.
English media reports had previously confirmed that all details regarding the extension of the player’s contract had been agreed upon, given Manchester City’s determination to retain one of its key defensive players.
Gvardiol joined Manchester City in the summer of 2023 from RB Leipzig, and has since established himself as a key player in the team’s lineup.
The extension of the Croatian international’s contract comes as part of Manchester City’s plan to maintain its core squad, in preparation for domestic and continental competitions in the coming seasons.
