Washington, USA – Arab football fans eagerly await the highly anticipated match between Algeria and Jordan, scheduled for the day after tomorrow in San Francisco. This match is part of the second round of Group I in the 2026 World Cup. Indeed, the encounter is of great importance to both teams, who are striving to revive their hopes of qualifying for the Round of 32. Both teams are also keen to avoid an early exit from the tournament.

An Arab derby with shared ambitions

Both teams enter the match with a “must-win” mentality, having found their group standings complicated after the first round.

Therefore, this encounter represents a final opportunity to regain momentum and continue their pursuit of a qualifying spot.

The match also carries historical significance, as it will be the fourth all-Arab clash in World Cup history.

It’s worth noting that the tournament began in 1930, although Arab participation has increased over the decades since.

Saudi Arabia and Morocco… The beginning was in 1994

The 1994 World Cup in the United States witnessed the first all-Arab encounter in the tournament’s history, when Saudi Arabia and Morocco met in the third round of the group stage.

The Saudi team secured a 2-1 victory, thanks to goals from Sami Al-Jaber and Fouad Anwar. They continued their historic run, reaching the Round of 16 for the first time.

In the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the second all-Arab clash occurred when Saudi Arabia faced Tunisia in the group stage.

The match ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw, with goals exchanged until the final minutes.

Ziad Jaziri and Radhi Jaïdi scored for Tunisia, while Sami Al-Jaber and Yasser Al-Qahtani netted for Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia outperforms Egypt in Russia 2018

The third all-Arab encounter took place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, when Saudi Arabia faced Egypt in the third round of the group stage.

The Saudi team secured a dramatic 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Salman Al-Faraj and Salem Al-Dawsari. Mohamed Salah scored Egypt’s lone goal.

With the Algeria-Jordan match approaching, Arab fans are eagerly anticipating another chapter in the history of Arab derbies at the World Cup.

Hopes are high that both teams will deliver a strong performance worthy of the tournament and the crucial points at stake in the race for qualification to the knockout stages.
