Atlanta, USA – Spain secured a resounding 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in their second Group H match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This win marked their first victory in the tournament and temporarily put them at the top of the group.
A strong start and an early decisive victory
Spain dominated from the opening minutes, taking the lead through Lamine Djamel in the 10th minute after a well-worked move.
Mikel Oyarzabal then doubled the advantage in the 21st minute.
Just three minutes later, Oyarzabal added a third goal, giving Spain a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Spain continued their attacking dominance.
They added a fourth goal in the 49th minute when Saudi defender Hassan Al-Tambakti inadvertently deflected a cross into his own net.
This made it extremely difficult for Saudi Arabia to get back into the game.
Provisional lead in Group H
Spain moved to the top of Group H with four points, pending the result of the Uruguay-Cape Verde match in the same round.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia remained on one point, earned from their draw against Uruguay in the first round.
The resounding victory gave Spain a significant boost in their quest to qualify for the knockout stages.
Saudi Arabia now needs a positive result in their next match to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
