Madrid, Spain – FC Barcelona are close to finalizing a deal for Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva from Manchester City during the upcoming summer transfer window. This comes amid the player’s desire to experience a new challenge outside of the English Premier League.
According to the Spanish newspaper Sport, Bernardo Silva has made a move to Barcelona his top priority. This comes despite interest from Atlético Madrid in acquiring his services during the current transfer window.
The report indicated that the Portuguese player believes now is the ideal time to fulfill his dream of wearing the Barcelona jersey, especially given his family ties to Catalonia. Furthermore, the strong relationship between his agent, Jorge Mendes, and the Catalan club’s management also plays a role.
The newspaper confirmed that negotiations between Barcelona and Mendes have progressed significantly in recent days. This comes amidst Barcelona’s willingness to finalize the deal, especially since the player will be available on a free transfer. Furthermore, his salary will not pose a major financial burden for the club.
Barcelona officials believe Bernardo Silva still has much to offer. This comes after he maintained his form with Manchester City and continued to be a key player in Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup.
Meanwhile, the player is awaiting an official offer from Barcelona before making his final decision. This comes despite serious interest from Atlético Madrid, who are also keen to sign him this summer.
The report added that completing the Bernardo Silva deal could prompt Barcelona to part ways with Marcus Rashford. Rashford had been playing for the team on loan from Manchester United.
