Washington, USA – The French national team secured a well-deserved 3-1 friendly victory over Colombia in a match played on American soil, as both teams prepare for upcoming competitions.
The French national team continued their dominance against South American teams, winning eight of their last nine encounters, with the sole draw coming against Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final.
Coach Didier Deschamps relied on a number of substitute players, preferring to rest the key players during the match.
Desiree Doi opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a shot that deflected off a Colombian defender and deceived the goalkeeper. Marcus Thuram then added a second goal with a well-placed header from a Magnes Akliuch cross just before halftime.
In the second half, Douai returned to confirm his brilliance by scoring France’s third goal and his second personally in the 56th minute. The goal came after a superb pass from Thuram.
Jamiton Campaz narrowed the gap for Colombia in the 77th minute with a powerful shot that found the back of the net. Deschamps then made several substitutions, bringing on Kylian Mbappé and Michael Ullis.
With this victory, the French national team successfully concludes its series of friendly matches, after having defeated the Brazilian national team in the previous match with the same result (3-1).
