Madrid, Spain – Spanish press reports have revealed new developments regarding the date and venue of the highly anticipated Finalesima final between the Argentine and Spanish national football teams.
The Spanish newspaper AS reported that the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, the stronghold of Real Madrid, has become the most prominent option to host the match between the Copa America champion and the European Championship champion.
Doha was originally scheduled to host the match on March 27, before attention turned to the Spanish capital, Madrid, to host the encounter.
Reports indicated that recent developments in the Middle East made holding the match in Qatar difficult. This also led to the cancellation of the friendly match that was scheduled to take place between the Egyptian and Spanish national teams.
Both UEFA and CONMEBOL believe that Madrid and the Santiago Bernabéu stadium are the most suitable options for hosting a match of this magnitude. This decision has been tentatively agreed upon, with some security and logistical arrangements remaining before an official announcement.
The Santiago Bernabéu stadium previously hosted the 2018 Copa Libertadores final between Boca Juniors and River Plate, following the events in Buenos Aires. The event was a resounding organizational success despite the limited time available, which strengthens the stadium’s chances of hosting another final.
