Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – Al-Ahli Saudi FC secured a valuable 3-1 victory over their rivals Al-Ittihad in the Jeddah derby, which took place on Friday evening at Al-Inma Stadium. This match was part of the 25th round of the Saudi Professional League.
Both teams entered the match cautiously in the opening minutes, and in the fourth minute, Al-Ittihad players demanded a penalty kick after Fabinho fell inside the penalty area, but the referee ordered play to continue.
Al-Ahli almost opened the scoring early in the 14th minute after a cross reached Ali Majrashi inside the penalty area, where he dribbled past Al-Ittihad’s defense in a remarkable way before Hossam Aouar intervened and cleared the ball at the last moment.
Al-Ahli succeeded in breaking through Al-Ittihad’s defense in the 23rd minute, after English striker Ivan Tony scored the opening goal, giving his team the advantage at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Al-Ittihad returned to the game after the referee awarded a penalty kick following a VAR review, which Fabinho converted into an equalizing goal in the 51st minute.
But Al Ahli’s response was swift, as Algerian star Riyad Mahrez restored his team’s lead in the 59th minute with a well-placed low shot from inside the penalty area that found the back of the net.
Six minutes before the end of the match, Firas Al-Buraikan took advantage of a terrible mistake by Al-Ittihad goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic, to steal the ball and shoot it into the empty net, scoring Al-Ahli’s third goal.
