Abu Dhabi, UAE – United pulled off a major upset in the President’s Cup, knocking out Al Wahda from the quarter-finals after winning 4-2 in their match on Sunday evening.
The two teams met at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium, as part of the quarter-final round of the President’s Cup.
Samuel Lopes opened the scoring for United in the sixth minute, after receiving a perfect ground pass, which he met with a powerful shot that found the back of the net.
Syrian Omar Kharbin succeeded in equalizing for Al Wahda in the 26th minute, after receiving a ball behind the defenders, which he successfully put into the net.
Kharbin returned to give Al Wahda the lead by scoring the second goal in the 74th minute, following a shot from inside the penalty area.
Al Wahda’s joy was short-lived, as Gian Ferrari quickly equalized for United in the 77th minute with a powerful header that found the back of the net, ending regular time with a draw (2-2) and forcing the match into extra time.
In the first period of extra time, Osman Jamaluddin scored United’s third goal in the 110th minute with a powerful shot, before Samuel Lopes completed the rout in the 120th minute, confirming his team’s qualification.
