Tunis – The Tunisian Football Federation announced on Sunday evening the dismissal of Sami Trabelsi, the coach of the Tunisian national team, and his entire coaching staff, following the early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.
The dismissal decision came after the Tunisian national team exited the tournament in the round of 16, following a 3-2 penalty shootout loss to Mali, after the original and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Tunisian Football Federation explained in an official statement that it decided to terminate the contractual relationship by mutual consent with the technical staff of the first national team, led by Sami Trabelsi, due to the failure to achieve the desired results during the African Cup of Nations tournament.
The Tunisian national team did not perform at the level expected of it during its journey in the tournament, whether in terms of results or technical performance, which sparked public anger and resulted in the early exit of the “Eagles of Carthage” from the competition.
Tunisia’s journey in the Africa Cup of Nations
Tunisia began their participation in the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Uganda, before suffering a 3-2 defeat against Nigeria, and then concluding the group stage with a 1-1 draw against Tanzania.
