Cairo, Egypt – Moroccan Achraf Hakimi, defender of Paris Saint-Germain and the Atlas Lions national team, was crowned the best player in Africa for 2025 for the first time in his career.
The awards ceremony for the best in Africa was held today in Rabat, Morocco.
Moroccan Achraf Hakimi outperformed both Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Nigerian Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray.
Achraf Hakimi became the fifth Moroccan player to win the award, following Ahmed Faras in 1975, Mohamed Timoumi in 1985, Badou Zaki in 1986, and Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
Hakimi has also previously finished second in the last two editions of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards.

Moroccan Achraf Hakimi had an exceptional season with French club Paris Saint-Germain, winning the domestic treble in the French League, Super Cup and Cup, in addition to the Champions League and European Super Cup.
Achraf Hakimi also shone with the Moroccan national team, successfully leading the Atlas Lions to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
During the last season, Hakimi participated in 55 matches with Paris Saint-Germain, during which he managed to score 11 goals and make 16 assists.
It is worth noting that Nigerian Ademola Lookman won the African Player of the Year award in the previous edition.
