Cairo, Egypt – Former Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has called for Mohamed Salah to be dropped from the starting lineup in the coming period due to his declining performance.
Steve Nicol told the British newspaper Metro: “I was excited when he scored two goals in two games, but his overall performance hasn’t changed much apart from those two goals.”
He added: “Now the only other thing you can do is put him on the bench, take a look, maybe from a different perspective. Then bring him on in the next game, and let’s see if there’s any reaction. Because unfortunately, he’s reached a point where the team can’t tolerate him anymore. It’s that simple.”
When asked whether Arne Slott wanted to make the most of Salah before he went to play for Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations, Nicol said: “What’s the point? The guy doesn’t give you anything.”
He added: “You can look at it from another perspective and say that he will be gone for two or three months. So it is better to try to find a solution now. Why should I wait for someone who is not offering me anything? I have to be proactive here. I cannot just sit idly by and let things happen, hoping and praying that someone will suddenly wave a magic wand and he will become king of Egypt again.”
Mohamed Salah has only scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists in all competitions for Liverpool this season.
