Cairo, Egypt – Dutchman Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, spoke about the upcoming match against Aston Villa in the 2025-26 English Premier League.
Liverpool are scheduled to meet Aston Villa tomorrow, Saturday, at Anfield Stadium. This match is part of the tenth round of the Premier League.
Slot said in a press conference before the match: “Ryan Gravenberch trained yesterday and will train with us today. We will see if he is able to start against Aston Villa.”
He added: “Alexander Isaac and Curtis Jones have not trained with us. There is a 99.9% chance that the pair will not be on the team roster on Saturday.”
Regarding the upcoming matches against Aston Villa and Manchester City, who do not primarily rely on long balls, Slott said: “The two teams we will face now are characterized by having more possession of the ball from the back. They are very good at that.”
He continued: “Manchester City are a team that presses hard, and they are very good at this type of pressing. But I saw Villa able to do that on many occasions. And if I’m right, they won the game thanks to a set piece. So, once again, the importance of set pieces is highlighted.”
Regarding the team’s recent performance, he said: “I am ready to adapt to some situations. Perhaps, with the exception of the Crystal Palace and Brentford matches, we deserved a better result. We rarely conceded chances.”
He stressed: “Unfortunately, during the last match, our defense conceded 3 dangerous chances, and unfortunately, all of them were scored.”
He added: “I don’t see any reason to completely change the team’s style of play. We need to avoid conceding goals, that’s for sure.”
Slott concluded his remarks: “Aston Villa have performed well in their last 6-7 games, and that’s not surprising. Even in the games they lost previously, you could see signs that they are a very good team. Their style of play is excellent.”
