Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship kicks off on August 1 in Al Ain

The inaugural edition of the world's first mixed martial arts championship cements Abu Dhabi and the UAE's leadership in hosting mixed martial arts tournaments.

Al Ain, United Arab Emirates – Al Ain will host the inaugural edition of the Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship at the ADNEC Al Ain Centre from August 1 to 3, with participation from more than 20 countries.

The championship is organized by Global Vision Sports Management, in cooperation with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, and falls under the umbrella of the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Professional Association. It includes categories for masters, professionals, juniors, and amateurs.

The first day of the tournament will feature various competitions for the masters and professional categories, leading up to the semi-finals. The second day will be followed by competitions for the junior and amateur categories, concluding with the third-place matches and the finals.

The championship adopts the highest international standards in grappling, and welcomes athletes of all nationalities in the under-14, under-16, and under-18 categories, and over-18 and over-35 categories, in both amateur and professional categories.

The organizing authorities chose to host the tournament in Al Ain to highlight its growing importance within the Abu Dhabi sporting landscape, promote sports tourism, and develop future talent.

The top finishers receive 2,000 points and cash prizes, enhancing the competitiveness of the event and motivating all athletes to perform at their highest level.

Saeed Al Dhaheri, Director of Destination Management at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, emphasized that the championship reinforces the emirate’s leadership and consolidates its position as a global capital of international sports, following the remarkable success of Abu Dhabi Showdown Week. He welcomed fans of this increasingly popular sport to the Al Ain region to discover its inspiring entertainment and cultural experiences and its rich heritage.

For his part, Tariq Al Bahri, General Manager of Global Vision Sports Management, said that the inaugural edition of the first-of-its-kind championship globally consolidates the UAE’s leadership in organizing mixed martial arts championships. It provides a platform for all athletes of all levels, giving them the opportunity to showcase their skills to a global audience, with the support of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. This ensures a championship of a distinguished caliber and builds a significant legacy for this sport in the region.
