Sanaa, Yemen – The Yemeni Houthi group announced, on Wednesday, the targeting of a Saudi oil ship in the northern Red Sea in front of the Yanbu region. This came within the framework of what it called “implementing the decision to ban maritime navigation in the Kingdom and establishing the equation of siege with siege.” In addition, the group also claimed in its morning statement that its forces were able to accurately hit the Saudi oil ship “Wafa.” They stated they used a number of ballistic missiles in the attack.
The Houthis indicated that their operations against the Saudi energy sector have resulted in the targeting of eight oil tankers since the start of their alleged blockade on July 22. Moreover, they also claimed to have forced approximately 29 ships to turn back in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. The Houthis vowed to escalate their maritime operations to close all ports to Saudi oil tankers, regardless of the consequences.
This naval attack came a day after the Houthis announced on Tuesday that they had carried out a drone attack targeting what they described as a “sensitive target” inside Najran Airport in southern Saudi Arabia. In the same context, the group’s military spokesman, Yahya Saree, explained via the “X” platform that the operation was in response to what they considered a Saudi violation of their airspace in the Saada and Hajjah governorates. He also stressed that these actions “will not go unanswered.”
