Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Iranian government spokeswoman Fatima Mohajerani announced after the cabinet meeting that Iran had submitted a proposal for direct negotiations with the United States.
But US official Steve Witkoff set the date and did not show up.
Mohajerani explained that the Iranian proposal to postpone the “trigger” mechanism for 45 days was not accepted.
She pointed out that the opposing parties did not agree to Iran’s demands regarding 60% uranium stockpiles in exchange for a complete cancellation of the Snapback mechanism.
She also confirmed Iran’s readiness to hold a meeting with the three European countries, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Witkov, but they did not agree or attend the sessions.
New economic program
Regarding the post-activation phase of the Snapback mechanism, Mohajerani indicated that the government is working on preparing a new economic program in line with the current ministerial formation and military conditions.
She noted that the program will be presented to the Council of Ministers next Sunday.
She added that the program aims to protect the people’s livelihood and implement the “commodity card” issue that the Iranian president stressed.
Snapback is a tool of political pressure on Iran
Regarding the status of IAEA inspectors, Mohajerani said that all Iranian steps come within national interests, and the presence or absence of inspectors is linked to this framework.
She stressed that the Snapback mechanism has transformed from a legal path into a tool of political pressure on Iran.
Witkov “lies”
On September 25, the head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian Parliament, Ibrahim Azizi, considered Witkov’s statements about the existence of communication with Tehran to be inaccurate.
Azizi said at the time, “Witkov once again claimed that the United States was ready to negotiate with Iran, but these statements are false”.
The senior Iranian official also stressed that America “is not ready to negotiate, contrary to Witkov’s statements”.
“A permanent solution with the Iranians”
Last Wednesday, Witkov indicated that his country was holding talks with everyone, including Iranians.
He said: “We have a desire to find a permanent solution with the Iranians. Either negotiate or the sanctions will return automatically.” I think it’s the right medicine for what’s happening.”
He also considered that Tehran is in a difficult position, adding that “the mechanism for re-imposing automatic sanctions will take place within two or three days”.
However, he stressed at the same time that America has no intention of harming Tehran.
