Washington, DC – The United States announced on Friday that the European Union has officially joined the US-led “Operation Economic Outcast.” This strategic move aims to expand the scope of financial pressure and international economic isolation imposed on Tehran, and to cut off its sources of funding.
Expanding the scope of financial pressures and drying up sources of funding
US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant announced that the European bloc has officially joined the process of “economic exclusion” of Iran. He also praised what he described as the “firm and early European position.” Besant stressed that the United States stands firmly with its allies to ensure that Tehran is prevented from exploiting the global financial system.
The US Secretary of State indicated that these funds, which are crippling the Iranian economy, are used to finance Iran’s nuclear program and advanced weapons programs. They are also used to support a network of proxy forces that Washington classifies as terrorist organizations.
He also accused the Iranian government of committing acts of bloody violence. He vowed to continue financial pressure until all remaining avenues of funding for the regime are completely cut off.
The European position: Economic pressure combined with diplomacy
For its part, the European Union affirmed its full readiness to support the imposition of further stringent economic measures within the framework of the US operation. At the same time, it emphasized the continuation of diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions. It also aims to ensure freedom of navigation and the safety of commercial traffic through the vital Strait of Hormuz.
The European Union issued a stern warning to Tehran, demanding that it curb its nuclear and ballistic missile programs and cease its regional activities, which it described as destabilizing to the Middle East and Europe. The official statement concluded by emphasizing that “the world is sending a unified and clear message to the Iranian regime: the international community will not cease its economic escalation until all financial channels are completely severed.”
