  • Calls to mend relationships and restore shared family ties

Washington, DC – A poll conducted by a prominent research organization revealed that the vast majority of American Jews favor the ouster of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the upcoming Knesset elections. The poll results represent a new political setback for the right-wing bloc and the ruling coalition in Israel. These findings also align with similar sentiments within Israeli society. According to the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI), approximately eight out of ten American Jews, or 78 percent, are closely following developments and news related to the upcoming elections in Israel. This reflects a strong and ongoing connection to regional issues and political decision-making in the region.

Survey details and participation of dual-nationality voters

The institute explained that this widespread interest transcends geographical boundaries. Although only a small percentage—no more than 8 percent—of those surveyed hold dual citizenship and are actually eligible to vote in Israeli elections, enthusiasm is at its peak among those who are eligible. Their anticipated participation rate is projected to reach 92 percent, according to Hebrew media outlets, including Israel’s Channel 7. Regarding their direct political preferences, the figures revealed that 54 percent of all respondents are giving their moral support to the opposition bloc to win power. In contrast, only 14 percent expressed a desire for the current coalition government, led by Netanyahu, to remain in power, highlighting a significant decline in the current government’s positive influence on the world’s largest Jewish diaspora community.

A political divide between liberals and conservatives and the implications for Trump voters

The report issued by the institute indicated a clear and striking widening of the political and ideological gap between different segments of the population. Support for the opposition among liberal American Jews reached 78 percent, while the current coalition garnered a meager 2 percent in this group. Conversely, support for the coalition among conservatives was significantly higher, reaching 56 percent compared to only 8 percent for the opposition. Following the American partisan divide, data on former US President Donald Trump’s voters showed a 43 percent preference for the Israeli coalition, while 34 percent preferred to abstain, deeming it inappropriate. Among eligible American Jews residing in Israel, the balance clearly tipped in favor of the opposition, with 55 percent supporting it compared to 26 percent for the coalition.

Calls to mend relationships and restore shared family ties

Commenting on these findings, Yedidia Stern, president of the Jewish People Policy Institute, emphasized that this immense level of interest and close monitoring undoubtedly proves that American Jews still consider Israel an integral part of their larger family. Stern added that the most significant challenge facing any future Israeli government is adopting serious action plans focused on restoring and strengthening ties with Diaspora Jews, deeming it a central strategic priority that must not be overlooked in the future.
