Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump compared a military confrontation with Iran to the wars the United States waged in Afghanistan and Iraq. He asserted that action against Tehran would be the least time-consuming and costly option compared to those long-running US military interventions.
In media remarks, Trump stated that some of the previous wars had significantly depleted US human and economic resources. He also noted that those protracted interventions, despite their duration, had not achieved decisive results.
He added that dealing with external crises should be based on a strategy that minimizes losses and expedites the end of military operations. He also asserted that “protracted wars are no longer appropriate in the current phase of international politics.”
These statements come amidst ongoing debate within the United States regarding the effectiveness of foreign military interventions and the limits of the American role in conflict zones, particularly the Middle East.
