Budapest, Hungary – In a shocking statement, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán declared that his country will not allow Ukraine to join the European Union for the next 100 years. He emphasized that this stance represents Hungary’s unwavering position on European enlargement policies and the need to “protect Hungary’s national interests.”

In official statements, Orbán asserted that any attempt by Kyiv to pursue EU membership would be met with firm rejection from Budapest. He argued that current political, geographical, and economic conditions do not permit any acceleration of the accession process. He added that negotiations would only bear fruit after decades of evaluation and review.

The statement sparked a wave of controversy within Europe. Political analysts interpreted it as a strong message to Ukraine that European support for its membership is not unconditional. They also suggested that the interests of member states, particularly Hungary, could hinder any future aspirations.

This declaration comes at a time of escalating tensions between the European Union and Russia due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. In this context, the issue of EU membership remains a key bargaining chip and a point of political contention in the region. With these words, Orban is not only rejecting Ukraine… but is setting before it a whole century of waiting.
