Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine last night. They fired approximately 300 Shahed attack drones, along with 18 ballistic missiles and 7 cruise missiles. Zelensky explained that the primary targets of the attack were power plants and substations. As a result, there was significant damage to residential and civilian infrastructure.
The strikes affected the regions of Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk. Hundreds of thousands of homes were left without power in the Kyiv region alone. A post office in the town of Korotych in the Kharkiv region was also shelled. This attack killed four people. President Zelensky offered his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
Zelensky confirmed that all emergency teams were on the ground. He added that security forces were deployed to deal with the aftermath of the attack. He emphasized that the Ukrainian people stand united and resilient in the face of Russia’s attempts at destruction. These attacks on civilians remind the world that support for Ukraine is unwavering.
The Ukrainian president called on the international community to expedite the delivery of missiles for air defense systems. He urged an increase in military aid, especially with winter approaching. Zelensky warned that the cold would not help Russia achieve its military objectives. He concluded by thanking all the countries and organizations that are providing support to Ukraine in the face of ongoing Russian attacks.
